LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The National Music Publishers’ Association announced that Big Deal Music Founder and president Kenny MacPherson has been elected to the organization’s board of directors.
“I am honored to have been elected to serve alongside my peers at the NMPA,” said MacPherson. “The NMPA plays a crucial role in advocating for the rights of songwriters and I am thrilled to be able to contribute in any way I can.”
Big Deal, which has offices in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and London, handles publishing, administration, sync for film television and other indie publisher sorts of affairs. Their client roster includes Afghan Whigs, Alex and Alex, Bad Suns, and Beach House.
Prior to forming Big Deal Music Group, Kenny served as President and Senior Executive of Chrysalis Music Division North America, a company he joined in 2001. While at Chrysalis, MacPherson oversaw signings such as Ray LaMontagne, My Morning Jacket, OutKast, TV on the Radio, St. Vincent, Afghan Whigs, Thom Yorke and Dan Wilson, as well as producers Joe Henry, Ethan Johns, Daniel Lanois and Dave Sitek.
MacPherson got his start in the publishing world in the early 1980s when he launched Redhead Music Publishing, a joint venture between Rondor music and Mismanagement, the company that managed Supertramp and other superstars.
In 1989, he went to Warner/Chappell, running the company’s New York offices, later moving to the company’s Los Angeles headquarters, where landed clients such as Radiohead, Paul Westerberg, Underworld, and Blue Nile.
While MacPherson is a veteran of the publishing world, he got his start on the live side, serving as a stage manager at Glasgow’s Apollo Theatre before becoming Billy Connolly’s tour manager.
